International Conference on the Inclusive Museum
Posted on | June 6, 2008 | No Comments
What is an inclusive museum? What is the function and purpose of a museum in 2008?
At the International Conference on the Inclusive Museum at the National Museum of Ethnology, in Leiden, the Netherlands, emerging museum professionals and seasoned veterans got together to find out how to incorporate multiple viewpoints and involve and engage the community.
Kate Vusoniwailala, Director of the Waikato Museum in New Zealand is thoroughly committed to re-defining the museum. It was great to meet Vanda Vitali, Director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum. In Invitation to Imagination, Dr. Vitali discusses key ideas as to what a museum of natural history might be like.
Dr. Maceo Dailey & I advocate for combining the post museum, as defined by Professor Eilean Hooper-Greenhill in Museums and the Interpretation of Visual Culture (Routledge, 2000) with new museology.
